Corporate Social Responsibility
At DLK we believe in paying it forward and actively supporting social upliftment through education. We work with educational institutions from basic education to tertiary institutions - building capacity, supporting IT infrastructure and providing computer equipment.
We have partnered with our suppliers and customers to deliver impactful programs that support schools in under-served communities, provided services to FET Colleges in the Western Cape, and participated in initiatives to build pop-up computer classrooms.
Partnership with the City of Cape Town
As part of DLK Group’s social responsibility, we have launched a project in collaboration with the City of Cape Town Economic & Social Development Directorate. This project has been the 6th of its kind over the past 4 years and entails training and developing previously disadvantaged individuals in Computer Literacy skills. Over this period we have trained close to on 1000 previously disadvantaged individuals from Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Langa, Mannenberg, Delft, Mfuleni, i.e. from impoverished townships across the Western Cape. The most recent phase saw 95 learners being equipped and empowered. Their new found skill has assisted them in finding suitable employment. Having a strong relationship with the community and its leaders, SHAWCO has come on board and offered their training facilities for DLK Group to utilize for community training. In return, DLK assists with technical support and general maintenance of the Hardware & Software equipment.
We hope to make this an ongoing project, where we endeavor to develop even more previously disadvantaged individuals in the field of ICT. With DLK’s motto, “A Culture of Excellence”, we strive to constantly find innovative ways and means to constantly deliver excellent service offerings, irrespective of the social wellbeing or geographical background of people.
The Students’ Health and Welfare Centres Organisation (SHAWCO) in collaboration with DELL & DLK Group officially launched the ICT community laboratories in Mannenberg and Khayelitsha.
Dell invested approximately R600 000 into the two laboratories, providing state-of-the-art hardware such as new computers, servers, and projectors with smart boards. DLK Group provided the I.T and project management skills by installing 60 computers, 2 projectors, 2 whiteboards and ensuring that the environments are stable and user-friendly for both the community and staff.
ICT laboratory in Mannenberg & Khayelitsha launched
Mannenberg & Khayelitsha ICT laboratories have signed a two-year E-Support monitoring system with DLK Group contract ensuring that both laboratories will have professional IT support with 24×7 monitoring of the environment thus improving the uptime of the IT environment. DLK Group will be able to identify any problematic devices and automatically put proactive remedial steps in place, DLK Group has provided comprehensive training on the E-Support system to both ICT laboratories and empowering the IT administrators to make informed decisions about hardware and understanding their software risks.
The ICT laboratories at SHAWCO will be accessible to the local small businesses and school students in the surrounding communities to provide basic internet services, software programs, and social media platforms to ensure growth in enterprise development and education, reaching approximately 600 people. Computer literacy training will be offered to adults to boost skills to increase their opportunities for higher education and for entering the job market. Participants of the SHAWCO education projects will also have daily access to the laboratories to do their projects and homework.
